2015 GMEA District One Honor Chorus - Savannah, GA

October 3, 2015 Congratulations to the Vidalia students who attended Georgia Music Educators Association District One Honor Chorus at Armstrong State University last weekend! These students proved their excellence in local auditions and were selected to participate in the clinic in Savannah for two grueling days of rehearsal culminating in a wonderful performance for their parents and peers. Students representing J. R. Trippe Middle School included Emma Braddy, Cheylyn Cowart, Miguel Cruz, Jamiya Farmer, Joy McCullough, Shelbi Mortensen, Spencer Ruff, Walker Wheeler and Mareesa Zuniga. Vidalia Comprehensive High School was well represented by Anthony Edgerton, Larry Fussell, Faith Futch, Angel Humphrey, Emily Johnson, Taylor Mosley, Alyssa Peterson, Shelby West, and Ambria Wheeler. These students rehearsed before and after school for several weeks on the unfamiliar repertoire for the event, and represented our schools well in both their discipline and musical skills under the batons of master conductors. John Morgan, Choral Director, wishes to congratulate the students and thank the parents, chaperones, Principals John Sharpe and Gwen Warren, and the Vidalia City School System Board of Education for allowing these students to attend this memorable event.

Congratulations to Taylor Mosley of Vidalia Comprehensive High School who earned membership in the prestigious Georgia Music Educators Association All State Reading Chorus for 2016. Mosley, a Senior at VCHS, and proved his talent in a rigorous audition process before professional judges. The 2016 All State Reading Chorus performed a concert in Athens on January 30th. Students who elect to enter All-State Reading Chorus auditions must sing six collegiate-level exercises at first sight for two judges after studying it for only thirty seconds. Unlike All State Choruses, All State Reading Chorus is made up of musicians who surpass normal All State standards. Only 100 students were selected to participate in the performing group, made up of students from the entire state. Mosley was assigned to the lowest bass section of the Chorus, and became the very first Vidalia student to achieve the honor of All State Reading Chorus membership. During rehearsals in Athens, the choir sang over 70 pieces of advanced choral literature. In concert, Dr. Alison Mann of Kennesaw State University conducted the chorus singing six very difficult pieces of choral literature that the chorus had only sung twice in rehearsal, and Dr. Mann actually had the group sight-sing a Renaissance Motet on stage. Congratulations to Taylor Mosley.
