The Vidalia Lady Indian Golf team continued to make history Monday in Keysville as they won their fourth straight GHSA AA Championship!! The Lady Indians carded a 148 which was four shots better than Wesleyan and six shots better than the Lady Indians shot last year enroute to their title.
Senior Layne Carter shot a two under 70 finishing one shot behind Wesleyan’s Alissa Yang who birdied the 18th hole for Low Medal honors. Lady Indian Jesse Dalton shot 78 to complete the win for the Lady Indians who now have won five out of the last six State Championships. Only Glynn Academy with seven titles has more State Championships in Girls Golf than the Lady Indians.
Coach Chad Barker said that it was an exciting day with a lot of Vidalia fans in attendance “we had a great group of fans who came out to support us and they really cheered us on.”
The Lady Indians were in control through the day but at one point saw their lead shrink to just two shots with Carter heading into the 14th hole. “I thought I was going to have a heart attack” said Barker who has coached the Lady Indians to all five of their titles.
Carter then chipped in for birdie on 14 and also birdied 15 to all but seal the deal. “I am just so proud of and excited for these girls” said Barker, who went on to say that girls just weren’t great golfers but also student’s “almost all of our team are straight A students, and they work hard on the golf course, but even harder in the classroom.”
