Vidalia High School senior Elmer Ivon spent four weeks of his summer representing VHS in the prestigious Governor’s Honors Program. Nominated by VHS for his talents in Visual Arts, Ivon went through a rigorous selection process before being chosen as a Governor’s Honors Student.
Thousands of rising juniors and rising seniors are nominated by schools around Georgia based on excellence in various academic areas, but only a few are selected. Hosted by Valdosta State University, Ivon spent his first two weeks of GHP in classes on numerous techniques of art and his last two weeks preparing art works for an art gallery. He had two of his pieces chosen for the gallery.
Ivon stated that, “GHP was an unforgettable experience.” He also said that he was honored “to represent Vidalia” while among some of the smartest and most talented students in Georgia. Ivon hopes “to inspire other students to challenge themselves.”
