The Vidalia Indians scored 24 first half points and followed that up with 21 second half points as they rolled over the Toombs County Bulldogs Friday night in Lyons before a near capacity crowd. The Indians racked up 417 total yards in route to their 7th win of the year. The Indians are now 7-0 & and 3-0 in Region 2AA.

The Indians once again wasted no time in getting on the board as Tahjah Watts took it 56 yards on the opening play of the game to set up Chris Gay’s two yard run two plays later to make it 7-0 following Grady Blount’s PAT.

Toombs County would use short passes from Trey Cloud to receivers Chandler Lynn and Ashley Ashlee to get inside Indian territory but the Vidalia defense would stiffen and force the first of four Toombs County punts on the night.

The Indians would then drive down the field and get inside the Bulldog 10 yard line, but a holding penalty and a miscue would force the Indians to try a field goal from 22 yards out which Blount snuck in to make the score 10-0 Vidalia, with 3:17 to go in the first quarter.

The Indians defense would then hold Toombs County on their next possession forcing another punt. On the 4th down play two Vidalia defenders would blow by the protection and partially block the Cole Graham punt, which was picked up by Antrevion Williams, who scampered 20 yards for the score to make it 17-0 with 2:14 to go in the opening quarter.

Toombs County would come right back down the field moving the ball inside the Indian 30 yard line on a Cloud to Lynn pass which covered 47 yards. The Bulldogs would get an additional 15 yards on the play for a personal foul call on Vidalia. But once again the Indian defense would stiffen and force Toombs into a field goal try which was missed from 27 yards out with just eleven seconds to go in the quarter.

Neither team was able to do much in the second quarter as the defenses got stingy. That was until the Indians put their 24th point of the half on the board on a Marc Wardlaw 7 yard pass with 23 seconds to go in the half, which capped off a 58 yard drive to make the score at the half Vidalia 24 Toombs County 0.

The Bulldogs would put together their best drive of the night on their first possession of the second half, going 56 yards in 7 plays, ending on a Derrick Mincey 20 yard run to make the score 24-7 with8:49 to go in the 3rd quarter.

The Indians offense would then go to work on their next possession driving the ball 60 yards and chewing up 7 minutes off the clock, to stretch out the lead once again when Gay dragged defenders in the end zone from 2 yards out to make the score 31-7 Vidalia.

Vidalia’s defense would once again force a three and out and force a punt which the Indians fielded at their own 40 yard line. From there the Indians would take less than 2 minutes to get their next score a 29 yard Wardlaw to Sheldon Washington pass to make the score 38-7 with under a minute to go in the 3rd quarter.

The 4th quarter was played with a running clock with Vidalia scoring their final points of the night on a Watts 18 yard run which capped a 63 yard drive to make the score 45-7 with 9:11 to go in the game. Mincey would add a score for Toombs later in the quarter on a 4 yard run with 4:15 to go following the PAT.

The Indians would then field an onside kick attempt and drive deep into Bulldog territory before taking a knee to end the game with the Indians coming out on top 45-14.

On the night the Indians rushed for 342 yard on 45 carries with Watts leading the way with 94 yards and a TD. Chris Gay finished the night with 65 yards on 12 touches and 3 TD’s (2 rushing and 1 receiving) Nyshun Bell added another 62 yards on 7 carries and Rodney Wardlaw carried the mail10 times for 57 yards.

Mark Wardlaw finished the night with 75 yards on a 5 for 9 night, with two TD’s and also ran for 25 yards.

Up next for the Indians will be a huge 2AA game as the Swainsboro Tigers come to town, Friday night at 7:30 from Buck Cravey Field.
