Vidalia scored on their first five possessions and Chris Gay ran for 3 touchdowns and 168 yards on 7 carries as the Indians rolled over Bacon Co. 42-13 Friday night in Alma. The Indian offense rolled up 380 yards on the ground making it the 6th time this season that Vidalia has rushed for more than 350 yards.

Bacon County opened the game on offense and the Indian defense showed the Raider offense that it was going to be a long night as they forced a 3 and out and a punt.

Vidalia would begin their 1st possession on their own 31 yard line but would get 4 first downs moving the ball down to the Raider 22 where (Left)Chris Gay would score his first TD on a first down play to put the Indians up 7-0 following Grady Blount’s PAT with 8:52 to go in the opening quarter.

Bacon would get the ball back on their own 28 yard line and move the ball 13 yards in 3 plays converting a 3rddown to the 41 yard line. But on the next play the Raiders would lay the ball on the ground where James Outler would recover for the Indians with 6:58 to go in the 1st quarter.

On the very first play of the Indian possession Chris Gay would take it off the right side, cut back to the middle of the field and 41 yards later the Indians led 14-0 with 6:50 to go in the first quarter.

The Indian defense would again force a punt after a three and out giving the ball to the Indians on their own 46 yard line. Again on the very next play Gay would run 41 yards to the Raider 5 yard line setting up a Tajah Watts 1 yard plunge 2 plays later to give Vidalia a 21-0 lead following the PAT with 4:33 to go in the first quarter.

Bacon County would begin their next possession at their own 35 yard line and run 9 plays to the Indian 27 yard line before Vidalia would stiffen and stop a 4th and 1 try with 11:47 to go in the half.

The Indians would then go on their longest drive of the night, a 12 play 73 yard drive which took 6:27 off the clock and was capped by Nyshun Bell’s 2 yard run to make the Indian lead 28-0 with 5:26 to go in the half.

Bacon County would then mount a drive behind the arm of Cooper Brown, throwing the ball 7 times during the drive and moving the ball to the Indian 6 yard line with under 10 seconds to go in the half. Following an incompletion at the goal line, Brown would try and hit the Raider wide receiver on a slant, but Torre Bellamy would step in front of the pass for the interception and then return it 99 yards for the score as time expired to make the score 35-0 heading into the break.

Vidalia would receive the kick to begin the second half and would waste little time putting another score on the board. Beginning at their 20, Chris Gay would run for 22 yards on first down, followed by a 2 yard run by Watts to the 44. On the next play Bell would run for 15 and then 2 plays later he would take it in for the score from 14 yards out to make the score 42-0 with 10:06 to go in the 3rd quarter.

Vidalia would then unload the bench the rest of the way as Bacon County would score two touchdowns in the 4th quarter with a running clock to make the final score Vidalia 42 and Bacon County 13.

With the win the Indians moved to 9-1 and 5-1 in Region 2AA and will now face Washington County Friday night at the Reservation in round one of the GHSA State Playoffs.(Pic by John Conner)
