Education

Graduated 3rd in class from VCHS in June 1971.

Attended UGA 1971 - 1973.  Transferred to Georgia Southern and graduated Magna Cum Laude in June 1975 with BSEd in Spanish/English 7-12.

Graduated summer 1992 with MEd in Spanish.

Currently certified Spanish 6-12, Teacher Support Specialist (TSS), and Data Collection.

I have served on SACS committees every five years since being employed at VCHS; I serve on the Leadership team, work with student teachers, serve as new teacher mentor, and am the high school graduation co-coordinator.

 



Bio

I was born in Lynchburg,VA, 6/25/1953. My family moved to Macon, GA, in 1955 - I attended T.D.Tinsley Elementary, Miller Jr. High, and Miller Sr. High.  We moved to Vidalia, GA, 1968 - I graduated Vidalia High School in 1971 3rd in class.  I attended UGA for 2 years, transferred to Georgia Southern and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1975 with a BSEd in Spanish and English.  I married Mac Barfield the same year.  I taught Spanish and English for two years at VCHS.  Mac and I moved to Macon, and I taught 10th grade English at Mt. de Sales Academy for 3 years while he attended Mercer Law School.  We returned to Vidalia in 1980; I was rehired to teach English and Spanish and have been doing so ever since.  I received my M.ED. in Spanish from GSU in 1992.  We have 3 children, all of whom graduated from VCHS and later attended college.

I currently teach all Spanish classes all day, serve as Foreign Language Department Chairperson, and am the high school graduation co-coordinator.  I teach summer school for English recovery credit during summer school.  I was named Teacher of the Year for Vidalia Comprehensive High School in the 2003 - 2004 school year; I was named STAR Teacher in 2006 by STAR Student Henry Oddi.

I enjoy conducting summer tours to Spain, cooking, traveling, and reading about other cultures.
