Virtual Option Information and Registration Announced

VHS with Spear

Although the Vidalia City School system adheres to the belief that face-face instruction is the best practice for all students' academic and social development, we are aware of the unique circumstances presented by COVID 19. We also understand that, at this time, some families prefer an alternative to the traditional school setting. We hope that the information below will

provide further guidance for our families as they engage in the decision-making process and instructions for those who choose to pursue the completion of the virtual enrollment application.

For Grades K-5

Students will participate in virtual instruction provided by the staff of the Vidalia City School system. The virtual plan for K-5 includes dedicating staff members to lead their students forward. The exact virtual learning plan will be predicated and influenced by the number of students enrolling in the virtual option for the Fall semester. Both J.D. Dickerson Primary and Sally D. Meadows Elementary will make decisions regarding the allocation of staff members providing virtual instruction as more reliable numbers for virtual enrollment are obtained.

Requirements for the Virtual Option in Grades K-5

A Virtual Option Enrollment Application will need to be completed. The applications will be available to parents at the school during a Virtual Option enrollment period on Wednesday, July 22, or Thursday, July 23, from 10:00, am to 6:00 pm. Parents should complete the enrollment process at the school in which their child is enrolled. If you have children at multiple schools, you can complete enrollment for all students at one location. The enrollment sites will be sensitive to the current situation, providing social distancing and sanitation for common devices/materials. In order to participate in virtual instruction, a requirement includes access to the internet. At the K-5 level, enrollment in the virtual option requires a commitment of a minimum 9-week period.

For Grades 6-12

Students will participate in virtual instruction through APEX, a digital learning curriculum. Much like the elementary and primary schools, the system is in the process of determining the number of faculty members who will be dedicated to facilitating the virtual process and APEX program. Although this particular virtual option does have courses available in a majority of the content areas, there is a limited number of online electives and CTAE courses.
